A few days ago, ACTV8.ME, an “interactive TV tech company,” signed a contract with FOX to offer “second-screen TV experiences” to its viewers.
According to a press release, ACTV8.ME’s TV apps allows audience members to interact in real time during the show – from live chatting to earning badges to answering trivia. The company’s first second-screen app will premiere on New Girl, the FOX sitcom starring Zooey Deschanel.
Brian Shuster, founder and CEO of ACTV8.ME, says the interactive experience will “enhance overall television entertainment … and ultimately grow audience viewership.”
Is this a new frontier of social networking and/or social apps? Sure, “smart” TVs with apps already exist, but they don’t facilitate conversation among viewers.
If so, it may also be a beneficial platform for marketers and businesses alike.
