Get to Lickin’: Ice Cream Day Is Here

By Jay Bemis | Advertising Systems Inc.
With sizzling temperatures expected to continue in many parts of the country this weekend, social marketing managers who work in the food and beverage industry will bear this joyful news in the days ahead:

Sunday is National Ice Cream Day, so it is definitely time to indulge!

President Ronald Reagan, who also was known to pop a jelly bean or two during his time in the Oval Office, inaugurated the celebration in 1984, actually designating all of July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month as National Ice Cream Day.

Whether you work for Dairy Queen or Baskin-Robbins or your social marketing team stays attuned to events that spark interest within your local food and beverage community, commemorating special F&B days is always a good way to freshen your social feeds and threads.

And, of course, a photo of double-scooped ice cream within a sugary cone never hurts when you’re trying to draw some major attention from your followers.

More Summertime Treats to Spotlight Soon

It will be hot yet in most parts of the country throughout August, so why not hail another summertime treat next month: The watermelon? Its special national day is Aug. 3.

Your social marketing team might share some fun facts about watermelon, such as these from the National Watermelon Promotion Board: Watermelon is 92% water; early explorers used melons as canteens, and, it takes about 90 days to grow a watermelon, from planting the pulpy fruit till harvest time.

Perhaps the bartenders at a popular local restaurant know how to mix a refreshing cocktail with watermelon as an ingredient, and, better yet, their recipe — one that you might share with your followers — is one that also includes rum as part of the mix.

That’s because, ahoy, mateys: National Rum Day is Aug. 16, or a day to commemorate the spirit that is made from sugarcane byproducts such as molasses or juice. You can post recipes for rum-based cocktails, share the history or culture of rum, or feature some of the local or craft rums that a local distillery offers.

Most likely on that day, many social marketing teams will be sharing recipes on how to make a classic mojito.

Yet to Hail This Fall: Burgers and Tacos

There are plenty of F&B special days from which your social marketing team can create cravings among your followers as the 2023 calendar marches onward.

September 18, for example, is National Cheeseburger Day, which presents a perfect opportunity to poll your followers about their favorite local cheeseburger.

Though Starbucks might grab plenty of attention on International Coffee Day, Sept. 29, many locally based coffee shops also roast their own beans and create their own versions of lattes, cappuccinos or espressos these. Ask your followers which coffee shop is their favorite, or maybe stir up a hot-versus-cold coffee debate in your social media feeds.

Later this fall: Many folks may think of tacos chiefly on Tuesdays, but National Taco Day arrives on a Wednesday this year, Oct. 4. Serious taco fans may want to take two days biting into their tortillas, be they filled with meat, cheese, salsa or guacamole.

Need to learn more about special F&B days? There are several resources that social marketing teams can use — one popular choice is National Day Calendar.

So huddle up your team by heading to a local ice cream parlor, perhaps, to get your commemoration planning going.

And while you’re there, we would like two scoops of mint in our sugary cone, dotted heavily with chocolate chips, please.
