How is the World Watching the World Cup? [INFOGRAPHIC]

The World Cup won’t begin for another few weeks (June 12, to be exact), but marketers and businesses have been ahead of the game in gathering data on fans and targeted audiences, and planning their marketing strategies accordingly. This infographic by Marketing Week shows how — and where — the majority of the world plans to watch the series. According to the survey, most individuals plan to watch from home; nevertheless, the data show that World Cup fans will be generally open to exploring new brands or products being advertised during the games.

“Viewers are also highly likely to be tempted by in-store promotions, with 71 percent saying they will take advantage of offers from brands they wouldn’t normally use,” according to MarketingWeek.

This means that even small businesses — not just international sponsors — can benefit from the world’s most popular sporting event of the summer. View the full size infographic here. Not only are soccer fans spending more, they’re watching the games on multiple channels. A recent eMarketer report suggests the world has gone digital for this year’s World Cup.

“According to the study results, nearly half of adult US internet users said that being able to watch the soccer games on multiple devices was important to them. And using more than one device was a huge draw for fans, as nearly six in 10 said this enabled them to watch more matches,” the report said.

How do you plan to capitalize on the World Cup mania?
